More than $22 million in projects for Naval Air Station Fort Worth took a step closer to becoming reality on Thursday as the U.S. Senate approved next year's military construction bill.

The Senate, by a 92-to-1 vote, gave the green light to the construction of a new aircraft control tower, a parking garage and an addition to a child-care facility.

The House of Representatives passed similar legislation in June when it approved the military construction and Veterans Affairs bill. There are still differences between the two versions that must be worked out.

But U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, expects the Fort Worth projects to receive funding.

U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said in a statement that the funding "will help keep the base in Fort Worth at the forefront of national reserve facilities."
