I went over to MSN, the court reporter assistance forum. I posted my article I wrote about real time and transcripts. I received about 15 responses. The majority of them were very, very rude. I cannot believe how hateful some people can be. The manager of the group even left a comment questioning whether I was actually a court reporter or not. They implied that I was an aspiring journalist or even a student attorney - huh? They said that I lied because my post about real time was not on my blog anywhere.
I deleted my post on that group because I could not handle all the rude comments. Am I a puss? Yes, I am. Looks like I struck a nerve in the court reporting community.
And just to let everyone know, I don't think transcripts are suffering because of real time.

People Can Be So Rude

Maybe if you'd edit your posts with the titles that seem negative then people would feel better. I think they see "People are so rude" and other things in there but don't see where you're apologizing in the comment section, and so they still feel some bitterness. I never saw the original post, but it sounds like everyone on the forum felt like the whole field was being attacked by someone who didn't even like being a reporter anymore and they felt like they needed to defend us all. It sounds like they thought you were attacking everyone, not just the individual reporter who took your depo. The only comment I saw with a specific was that you were upset that the reporter was scolding you for interrupting. You of all people should know not to do that and how hard it makes our job! Good luck!
I'm trying to do that right now. It's just taking me a little longer to write. The title of it is, "What I Should Have Said."
I never once said I didn't like being a reporter. I'm not practicing right now because I have a 22-month-old to take care of. It's not like I planned on taking a five-year hiatus or even a five-month hiatus.
